Bread!

A continuation of yesterday’s post (see here). The “mountain” that my great great grandmother is at is not close to where we are, so we are seldom in the area. We used to go more often, but with gas prices the way they are? We have to have a really really good reason to venture that far.

So since we were in the area for family, we stopped in at a little bakery known for their breads, Fendu Boulangerie, 2752 Woodlawn Drive, Honolulu, Hawaii. The bakery features a daily special bread along with their regular menu. Sunday was buckwheat fig. I’ve wanted to try this for a while but not enough to make a special trip (I think the gas alone would cost more than, or come very close to the cost of the bread itself).

Buckwheat Fig Bread

The Cat also picked-up a bran muffin for today’s breakfast.

Bran Muffin

First the bread.

Buckwheat Fig Bread Slices

A very rustic texture. I liked it. The figs gave a sweetness to the bread, no jam needed. Only issue was the fig wasn’t evenly distributed. Some slices had lots of figs, some slices barely anything. I guess sort of like life, sometimes you get, sometimes no get. No worries. 🙂

The Cat thought her muffin was okay (her socks stayed on).

Bran Muffin

I think there wasn’t “branny” enough. When we eat bran muffins, we want the texture of brillo pads, so the bran can do its thing. I’ll stop here, otherwise I may cross the “way too much information” line. 😉 Overall, not bad.

Enjoy. Eat well.
