Sometimes food (or ingredients) call to me. The other day, there was a package of marrow bones in the market calling to me like a Siren’s song. Wasn’t looking for them, didn’t even have them on my mind. But once food speaks to me, all bets are off.
Bought ’em and roasted ’em.
Nothing more needed than a little sea salt.
Of course I had a strong mug of “bitter needle tea” (ku ding cha) to keep everything in balance. Socks came off.
BTW, my internet surfing turned up a utensil call bone marrow spoons. They seemed to have been popular a long time ago. There are versions currently for sale but they’re kind of pricey. I noticed the shape is similar to the scoop end of our crab thingies (forks?)
Used them instead. Works just fine. 🙂
Enjoy. Eat Well.

Love marrow! 🙂
Thanks for visiting. Learned from an auntie “waste not”. She taught me well. 🙂
I love bone marrow soup ! ! Mom won’t cook the beef soup that we love without the bone marrow, although we have been telling her to go easy on the cholesterol. No, she doesn’t it it, but we do.
Cheers !
Thanks for stopping by. Everything in moderation. Heh heh. Eat well.
I haven’t tried bone marrow. Dad says it’s good 🙂 I’ll ask Mom if I could try some 😀
🙂
I know exactly how you feel – some foods (chocolate) sing to me too 😀
Cheers

Been a while since I saw bone marrow, looks good with the wheat baguette…we used to have a marrow spoon at home growing up in Bombay…just a simple stainless steel one:)
Our crab thingie works well. Thanks for visiting. Have a great weekend. Eat well.
My boyfriend is looking at your post and saying out loud, “I agree!! In soup or slathered on bread!” (He loves bone marrow.) Hope you have a good weekend, too!
Bone marrow, it’s not just for dogs (unless you consider boyfriends and husbands dogs, that’s a whole different kind of blog, just kidding). Thanks. Eat well.
Hate to show my ignorance, but what do you do, just scoop out the inside and eat it? The only time I ever bought marrow bones was for my dog!
No worries. Roast the bones. 375 to 450 degrees. 15 to 20 minutes. Sprinkle salt and pepper. Dig out the marrow. On bread or by itself. The dogs know the good stuff. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by. Have a great weekend. Eat well.
*drool, drool* I’ve never seen marrow bones in the supermarket in O’ahu. Although, I did see some in Kaua’i a few years back.
I love bone marrow, it’ so dangerously good. Every time I see bone marrow all I can think about is this clip from No Reservation.
Check Times Supermarket sometimes. I know, when Mr. Bourdain dug out the marrow, I almost fainted. 🙂 Have a great weekend. Thanks for stopping in. Eat well.
Thanks for the tip! Enjoy your weekend!
You too! Eat well.

Roasted marrow bones, so jealous! I love the rich gravy they produce in a beautiful simmered stock. Delicious 🙂

Soft, creamy, buttery. One of the best guilty pleasures. Thanks for visiting. Have a great weekend. Eat well.
Just put the bones on a rack and roast in the oven? For how long? Thanks.
Bones on a tray. Oven between 375 and 425 degrees (depending on your oven). 15 to 20 minutes (small bones take less time, large bones a little longer). Sprinkled with salt and pepper. Have a good weekend. Thanks for visiting. 🙂
Thanks for the recipe. that’s how I thought I’d do it. I’m from the country. Nobody else in my family would touch bone marrow! I love chicken bone marrow too. So does my parrot.
