For some reason (probably operator error), this post was in draft status for about a month. I think I started it, got distracted, and forgot about it. I was going through the files and found it. The situation is a little dated but the food’s still good. 🙂
I’ve posted about this place before, but with any good restaurant, no harm in repeating. 🙂
Busy weekend, out-of-town guests (they’re still here). No time to cook, mostly eating out (or skipping meals entirely).
Hinone Mizunone (1345 South King Street, Honolulu, Hawaii). Used to be a weekly staple for me, but then their prices increased. Slightly but just enough to be a tipping point. But as time passed, I started to miss certain foods.
I love eggplant in any preparation, except maybe Eggplant Parmigiana.
Simmered kabocha, another favorite.
A new dish for me. It’s a Japanese style beef and potato stew. It had more potato that beef, and that’s a good thing. A new favorite.
My absolute favorite dish here.
Tamagoyaki (egg omelet made in a square pan) is one of my favorite Japanese foods and Hinone Mizunone makes one of the best. Problem is that this is only offered during dinner, and we’re usually not nearby during dinner time. Sigh.
It was good to reconnect. Definitely will return, just not as often.
Enjoy.

The tamagoyaki looks appealing to me 😀
Thanks for sharing this mouth-watering post!
Thanks for visiting. Eat well.
Simmered Kabocha looks wonderful. I assume it’s a squash. I no longer cook, but I could do that.
It’s a winter squash that has the shape, texture, and taste of pumpkin. I’m familiar with the ingredient in Japanese and Chinese cooking. Eat well.
I use acorn squash. Cut it in half; place it cut side down in a microwavable dish with a half inch of water. cover and bake until it’s tender. Dump it out and add a spray of fake butter and a squirt or two of fake sugar or a squirt or two of Agave Nectar, a few grains of sea salt and enjoy! All within ten minutes! Delicious!
Sounds delicious.
