For some reason (probably operator error), this post was in draft status for about a month. I think I started it, got distracted, and forgot about it. I was going through the files and found it. The situation is a little dated but the food’s still good. 🙂

I’ve posted about this place before, but with any good restaurant, no harm in repeating. 🙂

Busy weekend, out-of-town guests (they’re still here). No time to cook, mostly eating out (or skipping meals entirely).

Hinone Mizunone (1345 South King Street, Honolulu, Hawaii). Used to be a weekly staple for me, but then their prices increased. Slightly but just enough to be a tipping point. But as time passed, I started to miss certain foods.

Simmered Eggplant

I love eggplant in any preparation, except maybe Eggplant Parmigiana.

Simmered Kabocha

Simmered kabocha, another favorite.

Nikujaga

A new dish for me. It’s a Japanese style beef and potato stew. It had more potato that beef, and that’s a good thing. A new favorite.

My absolute favorite dish here.

Tamagoyaki

Tamagoyaki (egg omelet made in a square pan) is one of my favorite Japanese foods and Hinone Mizunone makes one of the best. Problem is that this is only offered during dinner, and we’re usually not nearby during dinner time. Sigh.

It was good to reconnect. Definitely will return, just not as often.
