The Friday before Christmas. It seems like everyone was out and about. Several lunch options were too crowded. Ended up at the nearest KFC. Not a big fan of KFC, not KFC’s fault, just not a big fan of fried chicken. Fried chicken is not something I must have all the time.
In this case, my kryptonite is roast pork with crispy skin. Sorry, went off on a tangent there.
So anyway, back to KFC. Tried a KFC Famous Bowl (there was only one listed on the menu). From their website:
We start with a generous serving of our creamy mashed potatoes, layered with sweet corn and loaded with bite-sized pieces of crispy chicken. Then we drizzle it all with our signature home-style gravy and top it off with a shredded three-cheese blend. It’s all your favorite flavors coming together.
For 99 cents more, a drink is included.
All in all the taste wasn’t bad. The concept is something I might do with leftovers (throw everything into one bowl). I don’t think I can this too often, the sodium (not to mention calories and fat) content is off the charts. Plus, the gravy had a little too much black pepper (kind of overpowered the other flavors). I probably can make this at home with less damage.
KFC’s website lists two other bowls (not listed at the Kaneohe store), a chicken and biscuit bowl and a rice bowl. Same toppings, different starches. Both sound interesting but again, the nutritional negatives far outweigh my curiosity factor. Good to try once though. I’ll be drinking an extra dose of KuDing Cha (bitter needle tea) to detox. 🙂
Wish all a happy Christmas! Stay safe.
Enjoy.
