Food Porn

Lunch yesterday was with some former co-workers here.

Sign

The Cat couldn’t make it (something came up at the office), poor cat.

Scout Plate

For buffets, my first plate is the “scout” plate, a sampling of what looks and smells interesting. On this plate I have steamed fish (I forgot to note what kind of fish), Chinese style, broccoli and shrimp salad, lau lau, poke, and marinated mushrooms.

Oxtail Soup

Oxtail soup with add your own garnishes (Chinese parsley, choi sum, and ginger). The broth was a little thin and the oxtail could have been cooked a little longer, but it was still pretty good.

Mushrooms with Sesame Dressing

I think these were oyster mushrooms, dipped slightly in the shabu shabupot and topped with sesame dressing. Yum.

Shrimp Tempura and More Poke

More Steamed Fish

Poi

It’s rare to see a restaurant serve poi, this batch was a bit on the thin side, but poi is poi. Eat it when you can find it.

Saimin with Garnishes

Saimin with add your own garnishes (green onions, char siu, kamaboko, scrambled egg), in my case, it was more garnishes with a bit of saimin. 😀

For me, the high point was the hand rolled sushi.

Hand Rolled Sushi

Spicy tuna on the left, salmon skin on the right. The spicy tuna was pretty good, but the salmon skin knocked my socks off (and into orbit). Think in was salted and deep fried, tasted like fish bacon. I would’ve gone back for seconds but I didn’t want to ruin the moment.

Desserts

A chocolate cupcake with orange icing, a slice of Paris-Brest (you can read more about it here), and the hotel’s signature bread pudding with vanilla sauce.

Coconut Milk Tapioca

This was good. It was coconut milk based, not dairy based (my intestines thank you), and there was a bit of strawberry, or raspberry, or berry coulis on the bottom. Some co-workers went back for seconds on this one.

Finally, since The Cat could make it this time, the last shot is for her.

Chocolate Macadamia Pie

😛

Enjoy.
