A friend of ours dropped off some sea asparagus (he owns the farm).

Sea Asparagus

In trying to figure how to prepare it, I came across this post. Substituted sea asparagus for watercress. I didn’t have fresh tofu on hand so used the next best thing.

We always try to keep one package on hand. It doesn’t need refrigeration, and the shelf life is quite long.

I baked it to harden up the texture (I was going to try to make the baked five-spiced version but I thought the flavor would clash with the sea asparagus). Par-boiled the sea asparagus for a minute, peeled the tomatoes, a pinch of sugar, a splash of rice vinegar, and a bigger splash of toasted sesame oil. No salt, since the sea asparagus was already salty. Ground sesame seeds for garnish.

The Cat said Yum. I think the next time I’ll add a small amount of freshly grated ginger.

I’m sending this post over to Deb at Kahakai Kitchen for her Souper Sunday Feature.

Walking through the mall I noticed a closed store.

Closed, Confirmed

I remember the store from small kid time. I think I got my first slush drink from here (it was strawberry). Sigh.

The good news is that the company continues on as an on-line store. Here’s a news article with more information.

I wish them well.
