Just To Be Safe

I was watching a vampire movie the other night. Just to be safe, I prepared a side dish of pan roasted garlic, canned black olives, and capers. Can never be too cautious.

Vampire Protection

Ate it with crusty bread. Not sure if it worked against vampires but The Cat sure stayed clear that night (garlic makes me gassy, sorry, TMI). 😛

Usually when The Cat comes back from travel, she likes simple meals (I guess her time and stomach are confused). One of her most requested is cai pao fan(“Chinese” risotto). Cai pao fan is one of her favorites anytime, but especially after travelling. This is easy to make, only one pot. Here are a couple made in the last couple of days.

Cai Pao Fan with Celery Leaves

I made Shiitake mushroom dashi for stock. A splash of roasted sesame oil on top.

Cai Pao Fan with Turnips, Napa Cabbage, and Egg

I made beef stock from some bones to keep on hand. If I’m not making cai pao fan, I’m making quick soups for The Cat.

BTW, in the package of bones there was one shank bone.

Roasted Beef Marrow Bone

I roasted that one for the marrow which The Cat happily devoured. Slurp.
