Yesterday, a group of us got together to prepare a dinner for our local Ronald McDonald House. I was the coordinator. Being the coordinator has its pluses and minuses. The pluses were  I got to plan the menu, shop for the ingredients, and organize the volunteers. The minuses were I got to plan the menu, shop the ingredients, and organize the volunteers. 🙂

I not used to calculating a menu for approximately 35 people (both guests and volunteers), so that was a bit of a challenge. I’m also not comfortable leading or directing people to do what I want, but I figure if Remy can do it, I’ll give it a shot.

On the menu tonight was

Cucumber Wakame Salad

Blanched Asparagus Spears with Lemon Butter

Baked and Broiled Bacon-Wrapped Chicken Thighs

Broiled Pineapple Sausage

We also brought ice cream syrups, nuts, and whipped cream for ice cream sundaes (the House already had tons of ice cream on hand).

The feedback was positive, the night manager said usually volunteers prepare chili, spaghetti, or tacos, so the menu was a welcome change.

Doing a good deed, practicing leadership skills, socializing with friends, getting to eat bacon, it’s all good.

Thanks to the Ronald McDonald House for letting us use their kitchen and thanks to C, R, B, P, and M for letting me be boss for a little while. 😉

Enjoy.
