A friend has assigned a project for this blog. He wants my opinion on the best onigiri or omusubi (stop twisting my arm). So, from time to time, I’ll be testing and tasting the different onigiri I meet (I know, it’s a hard job, but someone has to do it). 😉

First up is an umeboshi onigiri made with brown rice.

I know, not much to look at; but since this is the first post of the series, for those of you that don’t know what an onigiri looks like, there it is. The onigiri was purchased at the Japanese warehouse membership market.

Umeboshi Onigiri (Brown Rice)

The umeboshi was very large and very tart (in a good way). The brown rice did not stick together very well, so after one bite the onigiri fell apart and I finished it with a fork. The brown rice made the onigiri healthy but not very practical to eat on the run (or standing up).
