A Well Kept Secret

The Foodland market at Ala Moana Shopping Center is one of The Cat’s favorite places to get a plate lunch during the weekday.

Foodland, Ala Moana

The plate lunches are made from almost anything the deli has that day, two scoops of rice, main dish, and vegetable or salad, all for $5.99 (what a deal). The plate lunch option is not posted at the deli counter (you kind of have to know about it or ask about it). The Cat usually gets salmon, shrimp, or lau lau.

Today, I tried the plate lunch at the Foodland in Kaneohe. The deli didn’t have a many selections that the Ala Moana store had, but they did have meatloaf. Meatloaf is not one of The Cat’s favorite but The Mouse likes it.

Foodland Meatloaf Plate Lunch

Foodland’s meatloaf has Portuguese sausage and Kahuku corn in it (hard to go wrong with sausage and corn). The Cat usually gets roasted vegetables, roasted beets, broccoli rabe, or asparagus with her plate lunch. None of those selections were available at the Kaneohe store, but they did have cole slaw. Actually, the vinegar of the cole slaw balanced the meat loaf well. I thought the meatloaf was well made. I was happy. One suggestion, a little more gravy.

The Cat said additional daily choices include fried chicken, chicken wings, and BBQ ribs. She can always find something to eat there.

They have a program where you buy five plate lunches and the sixth is free. Between The Cat and her business partner, R, they almost get one free plate lunch a week. Good price and free meal (very appealing to the pake in us). 😉

Just thought we’d share, shhh.
