There used to be a family restaurant in the neighborhood named Flamingo. It wasn’t a fancy place, but it was one of the last restaurants that served “complete” meals (soup or salad, main dish, beverage, and dessert). I used to like their chili with frank plate. The place closed several years ago. I miss them.
This week, an uninspired bowl of Minestrone soup and the cold weather put me in the mood for chili frank and Portuguese bean soup.
The soup tasted like it could have come from a can. I was expecting more from an “Italian” restaurant. At least it was hot.
Yesterday’s lunch was at the neighborhood Zippy’s. I have to go myself, The Cat doesn’t care too much for the food. I started with a cup of Portuguese bean soup.
It’s probably not “the best” made but most of the important ingredients are there, ham hock, Portuguese sausage, beans, etc. Since I already had a cup of soup, a mini chili with frank plate with brown rice.
I think Zippy’s makes a decent chili, I thought the chili at Flamingo was better (just personal taste). The Portuguese bean soup banished the taste of the recent Minestrone soup in my mind.
Lunch contained a good portion of beans. Not a problem for me, but for The Cat. She said whenever I have beans, I become a ” biological weapon of Cat destruction”. Sorry TMI (but had to share). Hee hee.
Enjoy.
